Before you Renovate, INVESTIGATE! In North Carolina, landlords must provide prospective tenants of homes built before 1978 with a “NC Lead Based Paint Disclosure,” which includes a federally approved pamphlet on lead poisoning prevention and a disclosure form listing any known lead-based paint or hazards. This disclosure is required for most pre-1978 housing but does not apply to short-term rentals, housing certified as lead-free, housing for the elderly or disabled, or housing built after 1977.
